I am sorry Claire but you really seem to have the wrong line.

Quote
The JMP of our bloodline is the nephew of David Murray 1829-1907 Merchant and politician, married to Rebecca

I am afraid that does not appear to be the case. The chap who came to Australia is the MURRAY Connection. His mother was Helen MURRAY. If your line is from James Murray PITTENDRIGH and Agnes Mary LYDDON then it is not connected to these MURRAYS I am afraid as the MURRAY connection is through this James mother.  Your James' mother was Rose Eliza ARLINGTON. I do fear someone has made a terrible mistake with this. Both of these lines can be followed in the census and through their marriages.

We now pass on to the PITTENDRIGH section of this history.
This name represents one of the best families in Scotland. Since the thirteenth century the Pittendrigh family have been the owners of estates in Banffshire and, in fact, the locality bears the family name to the present day. There has never been a break in the long line of Pittendrigh through the centuries and many members of the family have been honoured members of the Church and professions. For example, we find one James Pittendrigh in, approximately, 1485, Abbott of Deer and, nearly four centuries later, another James Pittendrigh, M.A., was Minister of the United Presbyterian Church at Pittenween, in Fifeshire and retained such holding for thirty years until within a year of his death in 1893. This member of the family married a Miss Helen Murray, who was a sister of the well-known David and William Murray who came to Adelaide, South Australia, in the early fifties of last century and founded the since-famous House of D. & W. Murray Ltd. James Murray Pittendrigh, son of this union, joined the London office of the firm in 1896 and came to Adelaide in 1897 for the firm. In 1901 he joined the management of the Perth office and, since 1923, has been Managing Director of Australia at the principal office for Australia in Melbourne.

Mr. James Murray Pittendrigh married Miss Hilda Frances Kennedy of "Wonnaminta" Station and thus we see the connection between the pioneer families already mentioned and the Foundation of one of Australia's finest Merchantile Houses. From this union there have been two sons in David, who was born at Adelaide in 1909 and is now a grazier at "Werri Park'', Benalla, and Robert Kennedy who was born at Adelaide 1917.

Cheers Kris  :)

Kris, thank you so much, you are very kind to have researched this, I wasn't expecting such interest or such a result.
We too were thinking there were two men of the same name after being puzzled by the age differences and the marriages. We initially wondered if our grandfather had had a secret family somewhere! My grandmother (his daughter) and her two brothers are now deceased, we are constructing a family tree, and are having to dig for information ourselves.
It's all becoming clearer now, thanks to all of your input, thank you all.

Information on this bloodline has been vague to us as my grandmother and her brothers became estranged from their father.

Thanks again to you all,
kind regards,
Claire
