This site gives some details of some clergymen but not all.  There are several Wingfields and Cassons listed with dates of ordination and appointments:

The date is too early for Crockfords to be of use in this case.

Ainslie, thank you too. (What a lot of helpful people there are on Rootschat!)

I've checked all of the names on the CCE site, but my two aren't there - or don't seem to be.  So I guess they weren't C of E.

Hello again,

The Wills database on the Cheshire Record Office site has an item for a Will of a Reverend Ferdinando Casson, Chester, dated 1838. It is such an unusual name I wonder if there is a connection to your Rev Casson?

The 1822/3 Directory, which is online, shows the Rev M Casson to be at The Commercial School, Barrs, Foregate St. This is also on the Cheshire RO site.

There is an entry for Rev Mr Winfield in 1789, he is at The Academical Boarding School, Northgate St then too.

I am sure that there would be something for these two establishments in either the RO, or the Chester History and Heritage Centre.

Jo

I wondered if it was anything to do with the Blue Coat School as that was in Northgate Street then. The buildings remain there to this day.

Jo and Leanora -

Many thanks for your further efforts.  These chaps are much harder to track down than I'd ever have believed.

"Ferdinando Casson" is a curious name!

he sounds Spanish or Italian to me hmmmm , is there any possibility he was a Roman Catholic?

if so may be you have been looking at the wrong schools ,just a though

or  have you the correct spelling of his name I though one of my family was Cussie  but it turned out to be Cassie  , after  others on this site had a look at her name on my mother birth cert.
