Pratt Family of Hunsett Mill, Smallburgh, Stalham

This is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone had any info on some members of my family who ended up in Gateshead in the early 1900s and onward, but originated eslewhere.

William Barnaby (b.1880 Metfield, Suffolk) and Charlotte Pratt (b. 1881 Smallburgh, Norfolk; lived at Hunsett Mill) were married in Gateshead in 1906, moved in to Rose Street, Gateshead  and had four sons.  William Barnaby then died in 1926 in an accident at the local gas works where he worked (Redheugh in Gateshead).  Widowed Charlotte then went onto marry a local man, James Beattie who was Irish by birth.  I am hoping someone somewhere might have information to fill the gaps - for instance, I have no idea why they moved to Gateshead.  If we have common links in our tree, I would love to trade information and it would be good to hear from anyone who knows the Smallburgh area.

I have several family connections to Smallburgh, and have collected some information on various PRATT families... no Charlotte, but probably only because my stuff is generally earlier.

One of the families moved to Chester Le Street, so that might be the connection with Gateshead?

Do you know who Charlotte's parents were?

Charlotte's parents were Thomas Pratt b.1847 and Emma Colman b.1849.  Thomas' parents were William Pratt .b1816 and Hannah Ulph b.1818.

My connection starts with Thomas PRATT (bap.1824), son of William (b.~1781) and Mary.

Could your William be another son of William and Mary, do you have his baptism?

Thomas YAXLEY (a grandson of Thomas PRATT) married my Great-Great Aunt.  She lived in Smallburgh, until her death in 1973.

Have you already got the Smallburgh census information?

Hello Nick,

You're right - we're related (kind of)!!  William Pratt b.1816 was Thomas' younger brother and the son of William Pratt and Mary Bustings, so there is a link.  I'm so pleased.

I have done some census searches, but just on particular individuals - I don't have the Smallburgh census info.

If there is anything I can help with, I'm happy to share information.

Thomas Pratt born 31 March 1824, married Elizabeth Flaxman their children were Joseph 1850 William 1853 Elizabeth1856 m Joseph Yaxley,Sarah1859 m Thomas Knights and Mary Ann 1866 ,William went to County Durham followed later by Joseph and Mary Ann and husband after 1871 off the top of my head ! They ended up in Chester le Street.All Born Smallburgh Norfolk

So the William you are descended from is the one born 1853?  If so, I've realised I was looking at the wrong generation.

I've got William moving Smallburgh to Chester Le Street between 1871 and 1875 followed by Joseph between 1881 and 1891.  I'd 'lost' Mary Ann after 1881 - who did she marry?
