1891/1901 census lookup - Devol Farm, Port Glasgow
« on: Tuesday 22 June 10 23:36 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can some kind person do a look-up on the 1891 & 1901 census for Devol Farm, Port Glasgow and the tenant / owner was a Mrs Black who agreed to the use of land for the current Port Glasgow Golf Club.   I am looking for any information on this person and the names of farm servants who worked there.

I have a relative who worked there in 1897 and was hoping that he was working there at the time of these censuses as this is the only information have.

Is it likely that there may have been other records about the history of this site and if so where would these records be kept?

I would be very grateful if someone could help in any way.

thanks..........Elaine

Hi

thanks you very much for your help - it is much appreciated.   My relative's name was a Donald McQuarrie (farm servant) and unfortunately he is not listed on either of these censuses.

He had an illegitimate son born in Airdrie and the mother disclosed father name and address where he was at the time as Donald McQuarrie of Devol Farm, Port Glasgow.   The mother married later to another man and they brought the son up as their own but kept his surname of McQuarrie.   By the time the son got married in 1925 he had stated that Donald McQuarrie (father) was deceased.

It was worth a try - may never be able to find the right Donald McQuarrie !!!!! and its a mystery and may remain unsolved.

thanks again for your help.

regards........Elaine
