Pritchard Morgan Probert
« on: Tuesday 22 June 10 15:01 BST (UK) »
Pritch Probert (born 1888) was a professional boxer who moved from Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales to base himself on Tyneside around 1912/13.

He married a Matilda Duff in 1913 (registered in Tynemouth) and they had at least two children (also registered in Tynemouth), who, theoretically, could still be alive, so I will not name them here.

Pritch's death, at just 39, was registered at Morpeth in Jan-Mar 1928. I have all the info I need regarding his boxing career, but would appreciate knowing more about his life in the North-East and, especially, how he came to die so young.

If anyone can put me in touch with any descendants it would be much appreciated.

    Regards, Gareth

 Gareth,

with the 1911 census the latest we can access, there is not much to go on to find info on him.

Buying a cert.copy of his death registration would provide cause of death and where. ( Morpeth Reg District became Northumberland Central in 1937- but still sited in town of Morpeth)

His marriage, as you say, was registered within the Reg District of Tynemouth. This reg district covered a wide area containing several towns, villages, etc.

So between marrying in 1913 and dying in 1928, he moved northwards within Northumberland, or he lived in the northern end of the Tynemouth Reg District, some of which was transferred to the Morpeth ( NBL Central) District. e.g. Blyth

Copy birth certs of his children will reveal where he lived at time of their births.

Other source (for where living) is Electoral Registers- but not on line.

Thanks for that, Michael, particularly the geography/history lesson. I may end up buying the death certificate, but I was hoping that if I was very lucky some relation might just be on this site  ::)

It's not easy typing with your fingers crossed  :)
