George Henry Sinclair a mystery man
« on: Monday 21 June 10 19:07 BST (UK) »
Geo Hy Sinclair only exists in 2 records
1. 1881 Census
with Sarah (his wife) and several children only one of which is a Sinclair that is Alice Lucy 6 months old in the census
Jack Sinclair is really John Robert Huggins born Q1 1872 Shoreditch baptised 28/3/1873 St Augustines Haggerstone
David H Sinclair is really David Henry Bouchard born 5/11/1866 and baptised 9/12/1866

The baptisms are from the LMA

Sarah Wright was married 3x
1st to David Bouchard (spelt Bouschard on LMA) in 1860, he died 1867
2nd to John Huggins in 1869, he dies Q4 1874
3rd was George Henry Sinclair in 1869. 1880
George Sinclair is the mystery as he states he is born abt 1845 in Toxteth Park, Liverpool. There is no birth on FreeBMD.
Cannot see him in any other census other than 1881 and in 1891 Sarah has reverted back to her previous married name of Huggins (although A***Y has it as Huggan.
I have Sarah all the way to 1911 and she dies in 1918.
I also have another 2 children from her marriage to David Bouchard Sarah Jane who marries a LYE and Frances Annie Louisa who dies in 1864. The Mystery is finding out some more details concerning George Henry Sinclair, the other record is his marriage on the LMA to Sarah Huggins nee WRIGHT.

I think you might have the dates wrong here   :D

Also, do you know where the marriage to George Henry Sinclair took place?

OK - the reference for the marriage is

Sarah Huggins & George Henry Sinclair
1880  Apr-May-Jun  Bethnal Green  Vol 1c  p415

Do you have the marriage certificate, because this should show George's father's name?

Hello Barry

Perhaps you are already aware of the following but if not, even though the date and place of birth for George do not match the 1881 census, they may be worth further investigation:

1851

118, Ballast Hills, All Saints
Sinclair, Robert, Head, Married, 39, Waterman, born Ballast Hills

Sinclair, Robert Son, 2, born Ballast Hills

1861
RG09 Piece 3832 Folio 66 Page 32
Days Buildings, East Ballast Hills, All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Sinclar, Robert, Head, Married, 49, Waterman, born Newcastle, Northumberland

Hi

On his marriage in 1880 at St Jude Bethnal Green 35 year old George Henry states he was a widower.

There is this earlier marriage as a possibility

27th February 1872 St James the Great, Bethnal Green
George Sinclair Full Age Bachelor Labourer 1 Abbey Place Robert Sinclair Deceased
Isabella Richards 18 Spinster 1 Abbey Place William Richards Deceased
Both signed
Witnesses William Richards and the mark of Hannah Richards

The two signatures on the two marriages have letters formed in a similar way but the later signature is written in a larger hand.

21st November 1880 St Mary, Haggerston born 26th September
Alice Lucy Synclair parents George and Sarah, 83 Great Cambridge Street, father's occupation carman

I suspect Valda that is his 1st marriage but I cannot find a death for Isabella in the right timeframe.

Ivanidea that looks good but he is off full age in 1872 and born 1845 in 1881. The rest looks fine tho.
