help with census

 :-\              on  1841 census,
       DOWNTON-ON-THE-ROCK HEREFORDSHIRE
 it has a SAMUEL BALLARD AGE  55 & WIFE ANN
            LIVING AT DOWNTON COMMON  
    But i can,t read the rest as my copys to dark
                               any help ?
 
 2/  on  1851 census ,
            SAMUEL BALLARD  SAME AS ABOVE  
             HE IS NOW  70  !  SHE  77  
            ag lab   & garden lab    
 samuel born  ( look like  )  salop  crainham   ??
 ann         ""          ""           ranor  dis_____???
         any help

 3 /on 1861 cen  
         Samuel  pop s up living again Downton common
         no ann  also sonin  law family ?
        but his age is 69 ???? :o
          still ag lab but born  shropshire bitterley ??
     is this same one ???
 4/  
     BY 1871  SAME  PLACE ,
     NO SAMUEL   SON IN LAWS FAMILY STILL THERE
          RUDDS ,,,
    BUT ANN   APPEARS  AS MOTHER IN LAW  AGE 92 ?
 
 I have a cert sayin Samuel died  age 80  nov 1869
        so is this just mistakes ??    :-\

I would not worry about the age difference in the 41 to 51 census as ages were rounded down in the first, so while not a 'match', it isn't inconsistent.

If you want someone to look at their copy of the census(es), then I would suggest always putting in the Piece and folio numbers, as then you can go straight to the page, with no wasted time.

I would suspect that you could have the 'wrong' man in 1861, as Ann is absent. Is the one you have found declared as either married or widowed?

Also, could the 77 be 72 or the 92 be 97 for Ann's age?
Have you found an indexed death for her? (Can't recall when they added the age-at-death in the index now).

Hi there

Have you found an indexed death for her? (Can't recall when they added the age-at-death in the index now).

According to my Oracle:

From 1866 onwards the indexes include age at death

yes i have found her ref of death ;
         ANN Ballard   age  99    died 1876  no 6a  385 Ludlow
 .........will have to buy cert !...............................................
 I,M sure that this Samuel is the same man  but where was ann
   1861 his con was Married !
   and ann is a widow in 1871  this is correct as dc say he died
1869   So where was she ????
