Linking up people with same surname
« on: Wednesday 16 June 10 15:26 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please help me and tell me how you go about linking up people that you think could be ancestors.  I'll explain.  I'm researching my Grandmother's Irish side of the family.  I've posted a few queries on here before and I do seem to get a little further every day.

My problem now is I have found marriages and births for my Carson's and Sinnott's, which appear to have been born/married around the right timescale and even have the same Father's name.  But how can I know for sure that these are my ancestors.

Eg: My 3 x Gt Grandmother was Maria Carson (born Armagh 1827).  Her Father was Thomas Carson, Joiner.  That's all the info I have on them.  I have now found a marriage for an Elizabeth Carson in Eglish, Armagh, in 1860, bride's father Thomas Carson.  I ask myself could this be my Maria's sister.  There is also a marriage for a James Carson in 1859 in Eglish.  Could this be another sibling.  Also a marriage for a Sarah Carson in Eglish, 1853, Father's name Thomas Carson.  Does anyone think these are all siblings, and how do I go about connecting them to my Carsons? I think Carson was an awfully common name back then.

Likewise with the Sinnott's.  Any thoughts/help much appreciated.

Hi busybod,

Nothing of much help but what I do is put connections into the tree  with a note (possible marriage - possible sibling) etc which makes it easier when researching. It's right there in front of you rather than tucked away in a file .... somewhere!!!!

This has worked for me and enabled some connections to be made.

All the best,
Gail

Hi Gail,

Thanks for that.  It's a good idea, I'll do that.
