Pierce purcell
« on: Wednesday 16 June 10 11:49 BST (UK) »
Hi evryone,

Am looking for military record of ggggrandfather Pierce Purcell who was born in Ireland and later fought in the Indiam mutiny 1857 - 58 for which he was awarded the medal. He was part of the 81st regiment of foot I think, possibly a Corporal. Any info would be great, thanks. GBP

3115 Pte Pierce Purcell, 81st Regt appears on the Indian Mutiny medal roll.
No clasp medal, listed as discharged (so 1858 I guess).

So not a corporal, (unless busted back to private as some point)

Name interests: Boulton, Murrell, Lock, Croxton, Skinner, Blewett, Tonkin, Trathen.

Thanks Neil,

What is the 3115 number?  Is it just his number on the list?

I would like to find out when he left the British Army if possible as he appears in Australia by 1863 and went to fight in the Maori Wars in NZ as a volunteer.

Thanks for the info, GBP
