Missing Person
« on: Monday 14 June 10 21:43 BST (UK) »
I am in desperate need of help. I am trying to find an Eleanor Davies who married George Kirkham in 1863. Eleanor was born about 1837, place not known and George was born in about 1827, place possibly Lancashire.

They had a son in 1865 called William Kirkham but then there is not trace of Eleanor/Ellen until her death in 1872 from TB. I cannot find her or William at all in the 1871 census and there is only a tentative link to George as a lodger.

I know they married at Christchurch Monmouthshire, William was born in Newport and Eleanor died in 22 Cross Street, St Woolos and her fathers name on the marriage cert was Matthew and Georges father was John.

Any help finding Eleanor in the 1871 census or indication as to where she was born would be fantastic.

PS William is found living with relatives Swansea way in the 1881 census and George seems to have remarried although on Williams marriage cert he says his father was dead yet it does not seem George dies for a long time. Could there have been a split after Eleanor's death? :o

Yes, saw that but it was not clear that it was him. If it was then where was Eleanor and William (Wm) and why was he here? He is present at her death in 1872 as when I first saw this 1871 entry I did wonder if they had split up.

There are "Military" records available for a William Kirkham that gives his calculated YOB as 1868.  This could be the Son (they often were economical with the truth when it comes to ages).  He's in the Lancashire Regiment.
