VERCOE/JAMES marriage non conformist c 1863
« on: Monday 28 March 05 23:05 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please check for a marriage between Thomas Vercoe (Varcoe) b Roche Cornwall and Mary Jane (possibly James) b Lyme Regis Dorset, first child Hart Vercoe born Torquay 1864 therefore marriage around that time. Marriage may have been non conformist.
Also please check 1861 census for either of these people

Thanks Margaret

Hi Margaret,
Have just been looking at unreplied messages, and have seen yours. If you haven't already found these, then a possible could be:
Oct-Dec 1863 Stoke D 5b 602
VERCOE Thomas
PRICE Mary Jane

Followed this to the 1871 census to check that is correct and confirm that Thomas was born in Roche, Cornwall:
RG10/2424/61 page 29
By The Church, Henstridge, Somerset
Thomas VERCOE, Head, married, age 30, police constable, born Roche, Cornwall
Mary J VERCOE, wife, married, age 30, constable wife, born Lyme, Dorset
Arthur VERCOE, son, age 7, scholar, born Torquay, Devon
Woodman VERCOE, son, age 3, scholar, born Henstridge, Somerset

1861 for Thomas is with his parents:
RG9/1549/57 page 7
Holy Well, Roche, Cornwall
Thomas VERCOE, Head, married, age 51, ag lab, born Roche, Cornwall
Phillipa VERCOE, wife, married, age 53, wife, born St Dennis, Cornwall
Thomas VERCOE, son, single, age 20, china clay labourer, born Roche, Cornwall
Hart VERCOE, son, single, age 18, scholar, born Roche, Cornwall
Woodman VERCOE, son, single, age 13, scholar, born Roche, Cornwall
William T MARLING, grandson, age 3, born Berkshire

Looks like Thomas named his sons after his brothers  :)
Best wishes, haliared
