Re: Research in Wexford - Surnames required
« Reply #9 on: Thursday 15 July 10 05:03 BST (UK) »
Maggie-may,
Before you go you may like to put up a query on this forum showing what family names (with locations) you are researching.  Someone else may be researching the same lines and it would be a shame to trawl through records that they could pass on to you.

Be sure to put the surname in the subject line to get the best response.

Hi again,
Perhaps I'm missing something here but why are you looking at New Ross Catholic parish records when the places mentioned above would not be in New Ross parish?  See here http://www.wexford.ie/wex/Departments/GIS/ParishMaps/Thefile,7205,en.pdf for parish boundaries and also check out the TIARA and failte romhat websites to get pointers for new researchers.

If you email Wexford library they will tell you if they have the required parish records on microfilm and will let you book ahead if they know you are coming from abroad.  Some of the records are also in hardcopy so check that too.

Good luck.

Should have also mentioned Merv Rossiter's site as it he's been researching Rossiters a long time.  Also the familysearch.org has a huge number of the civil records up on their site now (although it takes a little getting used to).  Certs can be ordered from the GRO online.

Hatslip - the reason people are mentioning New Ross is that they have a very good and large research/history library there.  And I believe it covers not just New Ross, but most of Wexford.

Being a Port town, New Ross was also somewhere that many people would have gravitated to, I know vast numbers of people left from here for the New World.

Thank you Betty; with many hundreds of Shudall records you can rest assured I've checked all these sources already.  Being from the area I also know the mill is gone.  It was your knowledge of Duncormick village history I was after.  Never mind.
