4 Roseville South Kirkby West Yorkshire 1912 where is it???
« on: Monday 28 March 05 22:34 BST (UK) »
Can anyone enlighten me to where this house was in 1912.
I appreciate it's a long shot but you never know.

There is a South Kirby in Pontefract, could that be the one?

Yes that's the one. Perhaps I should explain a little further.
I actually live in South Kirkby, have done all my life.
During Research one of my relatives was found to be living at No 4 Roseville, South Kirkby in 1912. Problem being I don't know where in South Kirkby it was and I was desperately hoping someone knew of the street/road.
Or perhaps someone could give me an idea how to find it in old available documents.
Thanks for replying

Talk about teaching my grandmother to suck eggs ;D
Seriously though a library usually has old street maps of the area in the archives, you could try them.

Thanks Nessie,

I have tried the library docs to no avail. I know it sounds rather silly my living here but it must have existed somewhere and for the life of me I cannot find it.

I can share your frustration and will wrack my brains for other ideas.
The only things I can think of at the moment are the local newspaper who usually have files and trying an old folks home to see if anyone there remembers.

Hi, I live local to Sth Kirkby, but I haven't heard of Roseville either, my guess is that its a row of terraced houses on another road, eg on Mill Lane SK there is a 'Featherstone Villas'

Wakefield library should have the old maps etc for the area so its worth checking them out.  Also Westfield Resource Centre in S Elmsall may have connections with local historians.

By the way have you heard of
6 Vale Head on Carr Lane SK as my grandad was living (or lodging) there in 1912.

Roseville,I think is either the short row opposite the little fish and chip shop on Mill Lane,or the row opposite the Mill lane Working Mens Club.
