Christopher KNIGHT
« on: Monday 14 June 10 06:42 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am hoping that someone can assist me.  Christopher Knight was supposedly born in 1845 to James and Betsy Knight in Cornwall.  He came to Australia, where he married Mary Daintry in 1884 in Sydney.  He then apparently went to South Africa to work in the mines, where he died in 1893.

I am unable to find a Christopher who was born around that time, can't locate why and when he travelled to Australia, or the details of his journey to South Africa and his subsequent death.  The descendants of him in Australia know virtually nothing about this man.

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Daree

I have just checked the 1851 census and there is no Christopher, so assume he was born c1857...he was younger than you think.
That may be why you haven't been able to find him

Hi Sue

No wonder that I could not find the information that I wanted.  That now makes him 9 years younger than his wife, and is now more understandable that he went to South Africa to gold mine.

Is there any information about why and when he came to Australia?

Thanks again for all this information.
