Kath,

I gathered you needed nothing else.  After 34 years in customer QA at various international companies I'm used to assessing requirement specs so perhaps that's my failing - I cannot read people's minds and only see what's written.

Chas - please just ask nicely for any information that feel might be missing.  Or avoid answering requests that puzzle you. Your replies on this thread are rather hostile.  I've amended the one above to include Kath's name, instead if your ??, since she has provided it for your convenience.

I'm not subscribed to Scotlands People

Hi Kath

That would be a good step for you next - it is pay per view, with credits, so we're all in the same boat.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Kath, here's a wee bit about Arden House,  hope this works!
http://www.valeofleven.org.uk/scottishplacenames/Avale_names.html

The Buchanan's of Ardoch, Kilmaronock Parish, were cadets of Buchanan of Carbeth who descended from Thomas, the third son of the thirteenth Buchanan of that ilk, which will give you a pedigree going back to the dim and distant. Thomas Buchanan Junior & Company, were extensive hat manufacturers in Glasgow (where the Barony is) and Thomas was also a partner in the Ship Bank, founded 1750. He was succeeded by his son John, who was visited at Ardoch by Robert Burns. Various Buchanan families were prominent in the city's commercial life. Buchanan of Drumpellier was the Provost when the Jacobites occupied the city in 1746 and resisted as best he could, for Glasgow was staunchly Hanovarian, Buchanan Street being named after his family.  The oldest Highland Society in Glasgow was that of Buchanan.   Skoosh.

That's very interesting Skoosh!

I fear I'm descended from a more humble branch, but maybe Kath is more fortunate!

AR, a ready made pedigree, no chance in my case I'm afraid. There's a flat up for sale in the present Ardoch House, a cool half mil'    Skoosh.

Thanks to you all. Before I get delusions of grandeur I will need to confirm a few things. I have been deceived before with my Jones line. I know what I need to do now but it seems so daunting.
Where is John Roberts birth record? When did he leave for Australia, where from and was he really alone as I've always believed? Where is the marriage record for George and Elizabeth and was her name really Stewart or Stuart? and if my Buchanan line is so well known how come no one else has researched this line of Buchanan descendents of George and Elizabeth as they had more than the one child John Robert? Oh lordy I'm beginning to rave and thats certainly delusions of an altogether other variety. So off to work for me in the real world. Once again many thanks.
Buchanan: Dumbarton and Victoria Australia
Stewart: Scotland
Jones, Morgan: Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
Mahon, Treacy: Tipperary
Hartle: Cork

Kath,  here is what I have on these Buchanan's, William Buchanan, grandson of Thomas of Carbeth, bought Ardoch in 1683, his grandson John married (first) Mary, dau' of William Crawford, merchant, Glasgow, by whom he had Thomas b.1733 and other children; (secondly) in 1747, he married Elizabeth dau' of William Buchanan, writer, Glasgow, by whom he had a dau' Frances who mar' John Maxwell of Dargavel, writer, Glasgow and had sons John & William, both in turn, Lairds of Dargavel.  Thomas Buchanan was thrice married. By his first wife Margaret, dau' of Moses Buchanan, he had John his successor, b.1761. He was succeeded as a partner in the Ship Bank, by this John who married Elizabeth, dau' of John Parks of Netherton, Worcestershire, by whom he had John, who sold Ardoch; Mary who mar' Robert Finlay of Easterhill in 1810; Margaret & Elizabeth.
Thomas received an award of four guineas from the best dozen of felt hats, from the Edinburgh Society for Arts, Sciences & Manufactures in 1757. A writer is of course a lawyer. Mr Buchanan was MP for Dunbartonshire from1821 to 1826.       Skoosh.
