Keehner family
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 06:58 BST (UK) »
Hi ,
Not sure if any one can help me.

My GGGrandmother Elizabeth Keehner born late 1790's I think in Bermondsey married Francis Driesen in 1812 at St Mary Magdalene, Bermondsey. Elizabeth appears only on the 1841 census and Francis is a widower on the 1851 census. Francis was born in Germany.

What I would like to find out is more information on Elizabeth Keehner as I know nothing else about her. There are a number of Keehners in Bermonbsey at this time a Catherine who Elizabeth Driesen was a witness at her wedding. A Mary Ann, an Ann and a Francis Adam. Are they all connected? Brother? Sisters?

I would appreciate any help.

Pauline

I was just looking in the St Mary Magdalen baptism registers for 1798 for you, looking for Ann Keehner who (as Ann Knebel) was 52 in the 1851 census.

I found this:

Sep 5 born 2 Ann dr of Jacob and Sarah Kenah, stave porter, Johns Street

Isn't Elizabeth more likely to have been born early 1790s if she married in 1812? Remember that adult ages were rounded down in 5-year bands in the 1841 census.

A 57-yr old Elizabeth DRIESEN (address 4 Raven St) was buried at Wycliffe Congregational Church, Tower Hamlets on 11 Nov 1850.

I see that the widowed Francis DRIESEN was at 4 Raven St in 1851 (HO107/1545/389/6), so that burial for Elizabeth in 1850 must be the right Elizabeth.

Thank you avm228 and ShaunJ

You have found more tonight than I have found in weeks.

So it is possible Elizabeth and Ann are sisters with parents Jacob and Sarah.

The dates of the Elizabeth's Christening in 1793 and her age of 57 at her death in 1850 all tie in.

I shall order her death certificate and see what else it says.

Many Many thanks to you both.

Pauline

The Morning Post of 6 March  1857 has an announcement of the outcome of the Annual General Court of the Governors of the Society of Friends of Foreigners in Distress,

Francis Driesen was among those awarded a pension.

Hi ShaunJ

Thank you for that. How would I go about getting that article with Francis Driesen mentioned? I know very little about Francis only his occupation was a pork butcher. His age varies in each census so I am not sure when he was born or when he arrived in England.

I realize now why I havn't ordered the death certificate for Elizabeth. On the death index her surname is spelt Druxen and I was not sure it was her.

Thanks once again
Pauline
