James Barnard and Cath O'Connor were married at Forest Creek, Castlemaine, Victoria on 29/08/1852.

That's great.  I will add this and compare to what I have in my family tree.  It looks like you have gotten further than I have.

By the way, my surname is Lilai.  My mother's surname is Barnard. Obviously, I have taken after my father's name

how many children they had ?? Well I know they had my grandfather, but I believe there is at least one more which I am working on.
When was john born and died??? John was born on 11/10/1907 and died 11/11/1983 (I have both certificates I believe but will need to check that)

When was his wife born and died?? It's been difficult to find info on Gwen.  I think she died in 1998, but I can't be sure if that was the funeral that I went to... poor memory....we were not close at all.  I remember her from when I was a child though.

My best guess on james barnard is that he was born in the 1820's, either in Victoria or England. im not sure. I cannot purchase any documents online at this stage.

I believe he was born in Thaxted, Essex UK. But like you, I am not 100%
