Usher's Quay
« on: Wednesday 09 June 10 13:01 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Hoping somebody might have some local knowledge of Dublin, or know if there are any old maps of the city online.
I have found my grandad's family at Robert Street, Usher's Quay, but the only Robert Street I can find in modern Dublin is much further north, near Croke Park.
Does anyone know if my Robert Street is a different one, which has maybe disappeared, or did Usher's Quay DED stretch to the north?
Thanks in advance

You can check old maps here:

Also, there's a 1904 Street Index on the same link that might help.

Hi ,your Robert street is part of Guinness's complex now and although
theres a street sign which says Robert street it's inside a gate.
If you go to the resources board at the top of this board I'm sure there is a link to old maps but in the meantime I'll try to find something for you.

The 1904 index shows Robert St is off Rainsforth St, off Thomas Court, off Thomas St.

This map shows as far as Rainsforth St.

http://ims0.osiemaps.ie/website/publicviewer/main.aspx#V1,714394,733829,7

The map in the previous link appears to show the one near Croke Park.

Just got me wondering: Is this Robert St connect with Robert Emmett who was executed near here?

You are right  Dara but it's just a glitch with googlemaps and as I said above if you put Robert street Dublin 8 then it will go to the correct location.

Thanks to all for your help.
This confirms an auntie's uncertain memory that the family lived on Marrowbone Lane - they lived just off it.

Hello there.

I had ancestors on  the same Robert Street, What number are your family listed as living at and when?
