Heron family
« on: Monday 07 June 10 17:54 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone.

I'm trying to find any information on any of the Heron family. Two brothers John born 1782 in Maghergall and Adam who were weavers before being killed in action in the Battle of Waterloo.I think there might have been a third brother William Heron who also was in the same troop at Waterloo who survived.

I think their father was Adam Heron of County Antrim. Any information on any of the Heron's I'd be most grateful.

Kind Regards.

HERON family trees exist in volumes 23p1 Greenfield,[not sure if Greenfield is a surname or place name],  vol 25,vol29, vol31, vol42(Transcribed to somewhere else), vol45, vol75, vol86 inc a Reid line
These family trees appear in the Blackwood Family history manuscript trees in the LinenHall library, Belfast. However the collection is based really on Co Down, so it could be a wild goosechase. Perhaps a local Heron could visit for you. If not then  I suggest you ask them for photocopying estimates if they think your knowledge relevant and you should be prepared to pay a fee for copying, post and packing, and perhaps some staff time and overheads. However if the material is really relevant when you get it, I suggest a further donation to this unique library.
Linen Hall Library,17 Donegall Square North, Belfast BT15GB, Northern Ireland, Telephone: +44 (0)28 9032 1707,  Fax: +44 (0)28 9043 8586, Email: <irish.reference[at]linenhall.com>.replace the [AT] with the symbol please

Finally from memory, there is a new major list of soldiers just available on Findmypast from waterloo to boer wars etc

good luck, jim

Thanks Brenda for getting in contact.I too found Jeniffer's tree and got a lot of information I'd not been able to get before on the Canada side of the tree. My branch is of Adam's brother John who remained in England. I have a few letters what Adam wrote to his mum Jane and brothers which gives an in site to how difficult life was for him and the family.I've not been able to get much further back in the tree but there may have been a third brother who was in the same regiment as Adam and John Heron who were both killed at Waterloo. This other possible sibling William Heron survived. Not yet got more details. But he was born in the same area and a weaver before joining up.

Take care Daisy.
