Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I knew that a branch of the family moved to the USA but I had few details. I now have a reasonably complete story of Edward Hugh Gaten, his brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents, and most of their descendents in England. There is too much to put in a post here but I would be happy to forward all of this to you by PM.
Best wishes,
Edward Gaten (undoubtedly named after MY great-grandfather)
Gaten, Laband, Rue, Downing in Leicestershire

That would be great.

I could fill in the blanks on the Irish branch and 'we' have an other member of the extended family in the US, descended from Mary Gaten, who has done sterling work on that side.
My Dad (the 'other' Edward) will be amazed. He's 79 now and has been desperate for information or to make some connection.
