Marriage Lookup Please Glasgow
« on: Sunday 06 June 10 03:51 BST (UK) »
Wondering if someone could look up for me a marriage certificate and give me the info on it.

Michael Shea, and Mary Ann Cugans
Married 7 Jun 1875
Blythswood, Glasgow

I have a copy of the Igi record but need more information.

Also any childrens births. John was born not long after but cant find anything on them at all in any cencus.
John married Mary Kelly in 1900 and I have that certificate and they appear on the 1901 cencus.

Thankyou Geraldine

Hi Geraldine.
You can download the extract of this marriage from http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

That will give you parents names, ages at marriage etc.

There are a few Michael Shea's with wife Mary on the census returns but it would help if you get ages  - Where and when were Michael and Mary born?

We only have john as being 23 when he married Mary . Mary was a Kelly.  Have found some of her family on the census.
So that makes then about 1877.
On John's death Cert. it has his mother as Mary Ann Coogans. So spelling is different.
Thanks

Hi Geraldine,

Married 7th June 1875 at St Andrew's Chapel, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow, according to the Forms of the R.C. Church.

Michael was 30, a ship builder's labourer and stayed at 39 Old Wynd. His parents were John Shea, ship builder's labourer (dec.) and Catherine Shea m.s. Walsh?

Mary Ann (made her mark) was 18 and a hair millworker. She stayed at 70 Old Wynd and her parents were John Cugans, ship builder's labourer and Bridget Cugans m.s. Buller.

Witnesses were John Gaughan and Agnes MacKensie?

hume :)

Hi All

From all the info found so far and looking at the census transcripts, I wonder if this is the family with the surname mistranscribed on the transcripts (not Scotlands People):

1881 - everyone born in Ireland except for father Michael:

Michael Shaye 26, labourer b. Ireland
Mary Shaye 23
John Shaye 5
Mary Shaye 2
Patrick Shaye 3 Months

Address: 26 Shamrock St, Glasgow Hutchesontown

1891:

Michial Shed 35, Shipyard Labourer b. Ireland
Maryann Shed 30 b. Glasgow
John Shed 15 b. Glasgow
Mary Shed 11 b. Glasgow
Patrick Shed 9 b. Glasgow
Catherine Shed 8 b. Clydebank
Margaret Shed 2 b. Clydebank
Helen Shed 1 b. Clydebank
Bernard Boyle 32 b. Clydebank

Address: 4 Canal St, Clydebank, Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire

Thankyou both for the information. Hume, for the marriage infor. Wonderful.

Monica, Yes we wondered if the spelling was wrong. Had tried so many versions but not Shed. That does make sense as the  a could have been read as a d.
My mother alsways said the when her mother was sick, there was always  plenty of Aunts to look after the children.

In the 1881 cencus you said everyone born in Ireland except Michael, Did you mean the other way round, Scotland.

Thankyou both so much for you time in looking up for me. Have been trying for so long and getting nowhere.

Hi Geraldine

Sorry, for 1881, everyone born in Glasgow apart from father Michael!

These census entries that I posted are from the transcripts. Not sure if you have checked for the family on Scotlands People to view the original image. The family I think do show in Old Kirkpatrick for 1891 as Shea.
