Dazey outlined part of his service history which has a lot more detail if that part of his life is of interest.  For example, he finished his service having transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps so if there is a family "rumour" about that, then it is true!

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

My Father adds Hugh McAulay, Hugh Aloysius father had a scar on his cheek where a bullet had passed through his mouth and out of his cheek Maggie McGee was of course Catherine's Great Aunt not her Aunt. I've tried to attach the photo of Hugh with Maggie and twins

How amazing, and thank you for the information. Yes, I remember the scar on my grandfather Hugh's face although I'd forgotten how he got it.

Thank you so much for this information. I'll spend some more time reading it over the weekend.

Kind regards

Catherine

My Father says he was laughing when he was shot that's why the Bullet passed through his cheek, not sure if this was a family tale. Wouldn't  have thought there was much to laugh at in the Trenches.
