Danes Passage? Lincoln

Hi,
I wondered if anyone knows what happened to Danes Passage was in Lincoln please. My Great Great Grandfather Henry Clayton (c1845 Edlington Lincs) and  family were living at no 4 in 1881 and 1891. It looks as though it was near Danes Terrace on the census pages.
 I have looked on Google street view and found Danes Terrace, and Danes Cottage,  but I can't find Danes Passage. The Terrace is just off Steep Hill in the Danes Gate area. I expect it is long gone, but if anyone with local knowledge remembers anything I would be very grateful please.

You're obviously in the right area.  I seem to recall that at least part of Danes Terrace was a row of lock up garages as early as the mid 1960s.

I think Ancestry may have the 1946 Kelly's Directory - it's possible that at some point on Danes Terrace it may say "here is Danes Passage" or some such.

Sounds like many of the courtyards and terraced passages mentioned in the book detailing the Steep Hill area around 1900. I don't have a copy with me at the moment but several of my lot were living in and around the area.

on 1911 census it gives 6 houses for Danes Passage,

then goes to Danes Terrace,

maybe it was just above the T, on terrace

I too had a number of ancestors residing in and around Danes Terrace in the late 19th early 20th century including one of my Great Great Grandmothers, Caroline Wheatley, who lived and died at 13 Danes Terrace in 1902.

Danes cottages and Danes Courtyard have been preserved and I've attached one of 3 photographs I took a short while back of these cottages.

Interstingly the library does hold a document entitled: Housing Act, 1930 : Official Representation in connection with slum clearance in Mint Lane, Danes Terrace, Danesgate, Grantham St., Occupation Rd, April 1934,

The author of the document was the Lincoln, City Council, Health Department so it looks as if quite a large area, including I presume Danes Terrace, was cleared well before the second world war due I suppose to their insanitary conditions.
