Hello all, can someone trace Newman
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 20:17 BST (UK) »
I was wondering if any one can help Im trying to trace a Horace William Newman born roughly 1901, I think in banbury/oxfordshire. His father was called Samuel Newman. Horace married Rose Matilda Adkins in 1924 in Bourton, had two children Margaret and Rymond. Thats about all the info I have, it's almost like he disapeared into thin air, Im looking for his death certificate and any other info I can get about him ...thanks in advance, hope someone can help

Hello boocey

I see that he was Horace W. NEWMAN at marriage, but he seems likely to have been William Horace at birth (Birth reg Dec qtr 1900: William Horace NEWMAN, Woodstock 3a 878).

In the 1901 census he appears (if I have the right chap) as William H Newman, 4 month old son of Samuel (46, ag lab b Middle Barton) and Annie (28 b Edinburgh), of Middle Barton, Oxfordshire: RG13/1390/33/6.

Anna :)

I couldn't see an obvious death for him in England & Wales.  Do you know any more - did his children know him whilst they were growing up?  Might he have emigrated? (Or even just gone to Scotland, where he may have had links through his mother's family?)

was the changing of names around common back then, on his marriage and daughter's birth certificate he is down as Horace, would that be legal, or is it that I may have the wrong Mr Newman, thanks

Whilst I admit I don't know Oxfordshire very well, there is a death recorded in the Banbury District of Oxfordshire in 1957 of a Horace W Newman, his age is estimated to be 56.The GRO reference is Volume 6b,page 839.
