it appears that groups of people are being bracketed to-gether - does the Location give any clue ?

The second word looks as if it could be Keeper. Might it be Bar Keeper? There is a Shop Keeper a couple of pages  further on, which I have to say doesn't look quite the same but it's the best I can offer.

The bracket extends to names above the clip you have shown us.  On the original, how many names are bracketted together?

On my sub site, it is transcribed as "House Keeper".  I don't agree with house, but I'd go for Keeper - I think it may be Cow(s) Keeper  :-\

There are brackets on all the pages, nothing to do with occupations, they seem to be linking members of the household.

My thought was Cow Keeper too.
