Thanks for your help.
I have been really stumped with this (for many years! I can remember trawling through microfiche and films at the local LDS library nearly 30 years ago - now I have come back to it, computers give you a lot of info - but sometimes it just gets more and more tangled!.........)
I know Samuel's daughters Ann and Sarah were christened on 9 April 1828 at Macclesfield St Michael's. It just gives father Samuel Burgess and Mother Sarah. I don't know if they were twins, or just doing 'two for the price of one'! Ann was married 1852 which would make her 24 - which is what it says on her marriage certificate. There are many Sarah Burgess, so can't pin down when/if she was married.
I have not been able to find any more children born to Samuel and Sarah at Macclesfield. There are three born at Prestbury (I know this is about 4 miles west of Macclesfield) to a Samuel Burgess and Sarah, but don't know if this is the same family - Mary 1813, William 1814, and Arminall 1817. It seems like a long wait until 1828 for Anne and Sarah (unless Sarah was ,say, born about 1822, and they just waited until Ann to get her christened.......) These are from the 'labs' search pages on Family history. Unfortunately the Cheshire records Project has not yet completed Prestbury or Macclesfield parishes.
On the 1841 Census, an Ann, born 1826 lived at macclesfield West. A corresponding Samuel lives Macclesfield West too, born 1791 (I know, probably rounded). A Sarah born 1776 also at Macclesfield West, but this seems too old for Samuel's wife. No corresponding daughter Sarah (aged approx.13) - she could be staying somewhere else- there are three likely candidates - one at Prestbury, one at Alderley and one at Bollington.
There is also an Ann on the 1841 Census living at Macclesfield East born 1829. No corresponding Samuel or Sarah (mother) or Sarah (sister). Of course Ann could be the one staying somewhere else! On the 1851 Census this Ann still seems to be at Macclesfield East - no corresponding family members, but by now she would be 23 and probably away from home.
Ann marries John Lane in 1852, who on the 1851 Census is living as an agricultural labourer in the household of John Allman at Alderley (8 miles to Macclesfield?). No Ann Burgess given at Alderley in 1851 Census, but there is one in the 1841 Census - visiting relatives? John Lane was born at Prestbury, and their (John Lane and Ann) children born Bollington and Prestbury. No Samuel in 1841 Census at Alderley, but there one is in 1851, born 1799.
There is a Samuel Burgess on the 1841 Census living at Bollington, born 1801, with a corresponding Sarah (mother), born 1811, and a Sarah (daughter) born 1811. Again, no corresponding Ann. but she could be one of those away on the night.
Also on the 1841 Census there is a Sarah (mother) born 1801 living at Prestbury, with a corresponding Ann, born 1828, and a Sarah (daughter) born 1829. No corresponding Samuel - perhaps he's the one away from home! Sarah (mother) still seems to be in Prestbury by 1851, but no corresponding daughters. Away working? Sarah married? A Sarah Burgess married Richard McCann 1848 at Middlewich, father Samuel, but no knowing if this is the same one.
And so I go round and round!
There seems to be two main candidates for my Samuel in the 1841 Census:
One living in Bollington - born 1801;
One living in Macclesfield West, born 1791.
In the 1851 Census:
One living at Alderley born 1799; Born Great Warford.
One living Macclesfield West born 1789. Born Buglawton.
(At a guess the same two people).
Is either of them a baker? Or confectioner.............
And four for my Ann in the 1841 Census:
1826 Macclesfield West
1828 Prestbury
1828 Alderley
1829 Macclesfield East
Maybe this is one I can't unravel. Any help in seeing things any clearer gratefully received!

Many thanks in deed
