John Blow
« on: Wednesday 26 May 10 00:34 BST (UK) »
Hi there
I am tracing any history of my great great grandfather, Alfred Blow, who's daughter, my grand mother, Mabel Irene Blow,  born 4/2/1886, Foxground NSW, married my grand father, Alexander Gilmore, at Alstonville, NSW, 8/9/1906. My father's name is Alfred Blow Gilmore, born 15/4/1908, Ballina, NSW.
Yours
Denis Gilmore

Welcome to Rootschat (and what a lovely wedding picture). Do you know where in Co. Down your Blow family came from?

The title of this thread is 'John Blow' but your post only mentions Alfred Blow. Was Alfred (Mabel's father) born in Ireland? and if so, any idea of when? If before 1864 (start of civil registration of births) you would need to search for church records.

Theres only 1 John Blow listed in 1911 census in all of Ireland but since he was only 40 years old he isn't the one you are looking for (although he is in Co. Down part of Belfast).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi there
I'm having trouble in replying to my mail, so I will post this reply here re John Blow. The first Blow family I have is Thomas, who was born in 1766 in County Monaghan. He married a Jane Ann Goff, born 1770. They had a son John Blow who was born on 25th July 1796 in County Monagahn.  (Died 29th January 1878, Foxground NSW.) One of his sons, Alfred Blow, was born on the 7th February 1851, Foxground NSW. He married Francis Jarman on the 4th of December 1878, at Foxground. Francis was born on the 10th of May 1858, in Foxground. My grand mother, Mabel Irene Blow, was born on the 4th of February 1886, at Foxground. (Died in Murwillumbah, NSW, 1937.) Photo of my mother (Mabel Botwright)  and father's (Alfred Blow Gilmore) wedding day Murwillumbah NSW, 1934.
Thanks again
Denis Gilmore

Hi Denis,

You'll find several references in PRONI's online offerings.

A John BLOW was based at Ballynegarrick.

----

I've come across the Belfast businessman Daniel BLOW.
[He ran paper mills at Dundary in the late 18thC.]

He was mentioned in some extracts of wills within the Tenison Groves archives in PRONI.
Might be worth organising a search for John BLOW there.

[Alternatively, the archive is available on LDS microfilm:
