Rees family, Westport
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 21:17 BST (UK) »
My grandmother is from Westport originally and her maiden name is Rees. I've checked the 1911 census but nothing came up. Anywhere else I could check?

What was her first name and how old would she have been in 1911?

She wasn't born until 1928, but her sisters, Margaret and Betty, would have been about two or three.

No :( I'd have to ask my Gran. She's coming over next week though, I can ask her then :)

If we had a bit more detail it might be possible to find the family in 1911 census but searching with first name and age, etc. in case the surname has been mistranscribed.
I did take a quick look at civil index but didn't have much luck there either.

Hello NessaF,

Family Search pilot site: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

shows these 3 Westport births for Rees in the indexes:

Percy b 1912; Elizabeth Margaret 1915 and Margery Frances 1920.

There are few marriages shown- none for the right time but Elizabeth Margaret's is there for 1939 so perhaps the family moved there after 1911 but stayed there then.  :)

There don't seem to be any births anywhere in Ireland for a 'female' Rees in 1928 so I'm wondering if the details we are using to search for information might not be correct.
