need advice, PINNER, Great Oakley
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 03:43 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
I've been working on a certain area of my tree, and am stuck. Want to go through Sarah Pinner and find her family, parents etc.

HERE ARE MY NOTES, just in case they can answer any questions...... In 1801 (abt), Sarah Pinner born in Great Oakley, per later census details. From microfilm #1702454, Bishop's Transcripts, 1800-1877, #373, in section 10. John Pinner, illegitimate son to Sarah Pinner, July 8, 1824. This is the baptism date. Oh, this or my tree is posted on rootsweb, under these names, if someone needs to look.

Mother of John Pinner is Sarah Pinner, married to John Goby in about 1825. In the 1841 census, I SUSPECT that Sarah and John Goby were now married, then RE-NAMED John Pinner, as John Goby.

I don't know where to go or what to do from here. I have Sarah Pinner (now Goby) in the 1841-1861 censuses. I have John Pinner, her son, well documented including all of the certificates, through death.

Thanks for your help
Martin Pinner, in Los Angeles

John GOBY bac. and Sarah PINNER sp. married Gt. Oakley after Banns, both o.t.p.
21 November 1825, both made their mark X.
Witnesses Phillip GAIMER signed X & Richard STARLING
(Richard STARLING witnessed most marriages around that time, so there is not likely to be any family connection)

Hi Martin,

I can't find any trace of a baptism for Sarah, I have checked the PR's from 1796  onwards, it is possible I have missed it because some of the fiche are too faint to read in places, you may need to get someone to look at the original book at Essex Record Office.

I have my doubts that Sara was born in Gt. Oakley, although she was of the parish on marriage,  and gives it as her birth place in the census, it is no guarantee that she was born there. I think you will need to widen your search to the surrounding area.

I have only found one other PINNER in the census who claims to have been born in Gt. Oakley, a William  in 1852, but there is no baptism for him either, and that fiche is quite clear, however,  he did marry there in 1874 , although he was living in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire, his wife was form GO,  he says  his Father was John, again there was no John or any PINNER in GT. Oakley in the 1851 census.

Perhaps someone else can come up with some fresh ideas for you.

This doesn't mention the male childs name but the year fits -  a Bastardy order for a male child of Sarah Pinner   February 1824  :)

Jebber,
William Parker Pinner, was John's son, here are my notes of his marriage........

OBTAINED THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE FOR WILLIAM PARKER PINNER AND MARY ANN TURNER.  They were married on February 23, 1874, at the parish church in the parish of Great Oakley, county of Essex.  William Parker Pinner, was 21, a railway porter, living in Chestnut, Hertfordshire, father was John Pinner, a labourer.  Mary Ann Turner was 20, a spinster, from Great Oakley, father Charles Turner, a labourer.  The witnesses were Charles Turner and Emma Benneworth ? (pretty close to that).

This whole thing is confusing, I wonder where she was from.  Obviously she always claimed in all the censuses that she was from great Oakley.  You suggest I get someone t go the the all saints church and review documents by hand.

Really good site

Hi Martin.

No, the original records will be at Essex Record Office in Chelmsford, not at All Saints now.

Try getting the bastardy order that teaurn found for you, with luck that will indicate Sarah's birth place.
