1851/41 Census Look Up Please for Mary Ann Overall
« on: Friday 21 May 10 14:30 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone help with the whereabouts of Mary Ann Overall in 1841/51.

The facts we have are marriage cert in April 1857 to Joseph Reeve, married in the Independent Chapel, Billericy, Essex. she was 25 years old and he was 22. They were both resident in Great Burstead at the time of marriage.

Her father was John Overall, a Carpenter.

That is where the search gets awkward, as he seems to be missing and there is a sighting of Mary Ann in 1841 in Felstead that looks like her mother 'married' a William Andrews. But I can't make it come together!! ::)

There is also a Convict Transportation link for John Overall to Australia in 1835. Is this him??

She may have been in service in 1851.

I have trawled through records on IGI and census but not found anything that might look positive.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated for this lady and her parents.

Kind regards,
Calmar

The 1851 Census has a Mary Ann Overall,  age 17 born Maldon, she is a House Servant at Bell Yard, Conduit Square, Chelmsford.
This could be her.

Roy,

Thanks, I had her in Chelmsford also.

1841 going to be more tricky I think!

I think the 1841/1851 is most likely her;

Marriage;
William ANDREWS, December 1837, Dunmow, 12 155
One of the possible spouses is Mary OVERALL

The Marriage Cert will have if she is a Widow and Fathers name and occp.

It is also possible that your Mary was ilegitimate and just put a Fathers name on Marriage to save embarrassment.

1841 Census William has older children and the younger one is 2 and most likely Mary Overalls and his child.

Trish :)

Hi Trish,

Thank you very much for that info. That is where I had got to with my searching too, so perhaps I wasn't too  far off the mark with 1841 findings after all! ;D

As to a marriage for Mary's mother, I had found the one in Dunmow to William Andrews, so as you say, getting cert will verify her status at that time ie single or widow, unless that John Overall Convict is her husband, in which case she wont be either!!! ???

A marriage for Mary's mother shows  John Overall and Mary Ann Biggs on IGI (Pilot) as taking place about 1822 and Mary Ann being born abt 1824, so that doesn't fit. Can't see anything else on LDS site.

Thanks also  to Sylvia. I have sent you a PM.

Kind regards and thanks for looking for me.
