Hi rootschatters, I have just received a marriage cert for my great uncle Colin Aubrey William Dare who the family lost contact with when they came to Australia in the 50's, on the cert it has his WW2 service no, I'm wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction to find more info on him it states that he was staying at Buller barracks when he married 28 Aug 1948 and his no was T/21183380, C.S.M, RASC. cheers Merideth

Company Sergeant Major, Royal Army Service Corps.  I think Buller barracks is/was Aldershot. Later RASC became RCT (Royal Corps of Transport). Now it is the Logistic Corps.  You might try googling RASC or RCT and see if there are websites that can help.

I think only next of kin can get records but there are associations that might be able to give more info.

CSM was the senior NCO in a company whereas the RSM is the most senior NCO of the Regiment and is second only to God. As you were, he is god!

Hello Meredith, I too am trying to find details of Colin Aubrey William Dare who was born in India around 1918. His birthday was 27th July. He left India in 1947 with his wife Joyce (nee Trevor). As far as I know, he was in the Merchant Navy and served on a ship called HMS Devonshire which was berthed in Madras in 1946/47. Could this be the same person? The name is identical and if you want to contact me to discuss things further I would be very happy.

Buller Bks is still extant in Aldershot, and as well as being the "home" of the RLC is also Brigade HQ for 101 Logistics bde

It was rebuilt in the 1960s and is quite  decrepit now. I was there a couple of years ago, and was getting "field conditions" rebates whilst living in the Officers Mess!!

The museum of the Really Large Corps is at Deepcut and they amalgamated all the former corps museums into one. Andy Robertshaw is the curator
