Perthshire mysteries!
« on: Thursday 20 May 10 17:25 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone

Does anyone know anything about a farm called Kenochraggan near Buchanty in Perthshire? My gggg grandfather Alexander Allan was registered there as a farmer/gamekeeper on his children's baptism records (parish of Monzie) in 1810-1820. It's actually down as Kinachraggan but we couldn;t find anything, and neither could the nice librarians in AK Bell when we were upn there a few weeks ago.

I finally found it on the 1832 Thompsons map and now have the correct spelling but nothing at all comes up on an internet search.

Also, I'm having problems finding Alexander himself. He states on several census he was born in Monzie but is not in the parish records at all, apart from on the children's baptisms and his marriage in 1809 to Janet Miller. There are no other Allan records in the parish of Monzie that I can find and I don't know where to look next. He was born about 1784.

Any info or ideas on either topic would be gratefully received! :D

Hi Julie

On
http://archivemaps.com/mapco/scotland/scotland63c.htm

between Milton and Lethendy there is a farm called CULNACLOICH it is on what is now the road from Buchanty to Logie Almond. Or if you go roughly North west up the sma glen road you have the Killdrogan estate. "Just a thought" someone with more knowledge than I will probably point you in the right direction.

P.S. Sorry Julie mis read your post, that's the trouble with speed reading on an empty stomach after a long day.

Not all births were recorded in Parish records......it depended on what church people attended in many cases, It was the church which kept many of the records

I have taken a look at the Thomson map to see where your farm was.....There isn't a farm there now.
