I lived in Palmers Buildings for the first ten and a half of my life, for our mothers it was a hard life but for us kids it was a great playground. The terraced houses were self contained two bedroomed one living room and a scullery unit. Water was from a tap at the bottom of the yard and the toilet and coal house were down there too. I learned recently (from a different website) The first three streets were flats but there is no way the rest of the houses started life as Tyneside flats - I currently live in a pair of these converted to a house so I do know the difference.
