Hi Lynda

Where did you get this from?  If it's a census and you can see the original image, you should be able to look at the district description and/or look at previos and following images to put the street in context.

Give me a shout if you need more help

The 1861-2 OS 25in to 1mile map available at http://www.nls.uk/maps/towns/index.html#montrose has Crancel Braes marked to the E of what is now Mount Road, Montrose.

Might this be the place you are looking for?

Thank you for this.  It makes a lot of sense to me.  My 2 x gt grandparents lived in what I thought was 'Canal Brae'.  When my 2 x gt grandmother died, her address was listed as Canal Brae.  (1856).  When my 2 x gt grandfather died, his address is given as 21 Mount Road.  My 2 x gt grandmother is buried in Rosehill cemetry.

Thanks for this info.Regards,
Lynda

I have just had a proper look at the map and it is fantastic.  I see all the streets that made up most of my addresses.....thankyou

Hi Karen,

No doubt they all knew each other then! people seemed to all know their neighbours back then.

I checked the copies of my census returns but my images don't show your family unfortunately.

Cheers
