USA 1890 Census

Is there anywhere to search this in full as Anc only has what it terms "1890 United States Federal Census Fragment".
I think the people I'm seeking are either in Illinois or Missouri, so if there is a searchable census for those two states that will probably do.

Most of the USA 1890 Census was destroyed by fire and only fragments remain unfortunately.  ;D

Have you tried looking for them on the 1880 or 1900 US census?

I don't know about city directories - are they searchable online?
I've got the family in 1900 and all but one in 1880.
It's my Wimbush's.
In 1880 John and his wife Julia, their children Lizzie, John and Maud are with John's brother, Thomas, his wife Amelia and son, Henry in Chicago, Illinois.
John and Julia's son, Ambrose (aka Frank) isn't with them.
In 1900 Ambrose is in Centralia, Illinois, with his first wife, Dora, and children Florence and Bertha (born Missouri).
Ambrose states he came to the US in 1881. I'm not sure if that's a case of being forgetful or if he really did come the year after his parents for some reason - in which case he probably managed to miss the 1880 US census and the 1881 UK census!
In 1910 he is in St Louis, Missouri with his widow's family and his children. 1920 & 1930 he is also in St Louis having married his widow's sister and with more children.

Ambrose was born 1871 in Witney, Oxfordshire, although his year of birth is inconsistent on the census returns.

Oh I was helping you with your Wimbush's the other day. Are these direct ancestors or just ancestor siblings?

I think city directories give a name and address but I am not sure if they are searchable online.

Any chance they were in Chicago?  Ancestry has voter registrations there for 1888, 1890 and 1892.
