?? re ordering a copy of a will
« on: Monday 17 May 10 17:34 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Just wondering...

I ordered a copy of a 1937 will/Grant of Probate etc at the beginning of April but have not heard anything from them yet. They have banked my cheque back on 14/4 so I had hoped to hear from them by now. I have just checked the HMCS website for info - I think I should have had confirmation of receipt of my application.
 - Has anyone ordered a copy will from them??
 - Did you receive confirmation of receipt of your application??
 - Did it take a long time to receive a copy of the will??

I know the the will existed - my Mum, the Grand daughter, was told about how the will had to be "broken" to release the money to the children (her mother, aunt & uncle).

Many thanks.

Vida

I don't know how long the waiting time is now,but I do know that a couple of years back a friend waited 12 weeks. :(

Hi Vida

I have ordered a number of wills.

You don't get an acknowledgement/receipt.  It can take a 6- 8 weeks for the will to be sent to you.  At one time the delay was even longer!

You could try phoning to check.  I have found the people at York helpful.

Several years ago, I had my brother order a will for me from Yorkshire.   They cashed his check but he never received the will.  When he called to enquire, he was told that the information had been sent, that they didn’t know why he hadn’t received it, and they refused to tell him whether a will had been found or not.  He was annoyed and so was I.

Last year, I made another attempt to get the same will.  A friend ordered it for me and it was delivered to her in about three weeks.

Vida as they don't issue refunds they bank all payments on receipt.

The wills i've ordered usually take 4/5 weeks to be delivered.

Hi Carol, Barbara, Erato & JayG,

Thank you for your replies  ;D ;D ;D

Looks like I still have a little while to wait (assuming I don't get the same result as you Erato!)
I have tried phoning, but keep getting the answerphone message which ends saying it takes 21 working days - we are already past that!!!.

Thank you again -  I will post when I finally get the will!!
