Stephenson Family - Caistor
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 08:06 BST (UK) »
Hi there
Looking for any information on John Stephenson; listed in 1881 census as being born in Caistor. His wife - Mary and daughter Lillie (age 2), lived at 53 Kings St/Rd, Lincoln. Lillie is gg grandmother and would like to know more about the Stephenson side of the family. Mary came out to Australia after 1887, with Lillie and son George. Mary eventually returned to Lincoln (date unknown).. Lillie visited her mother with her youngest son around 1925 - 30. Lillie's son placed a boomerang over the front door and was still there many years later in the 1970's when her grandson visited England.
Lillie's birth cert. list the family as living at Ward's Passage and father's occupation as; attendant at insane asylum... (Bracebridge.. I'm guessing.. ) any information on these would be a good read...!!
John, through the census's might have a brother Thomas, 2 years younger... and Thomas might have been in prison during the 1891 census...
If any of the above is connected to you.. please let me know..
Cheers Trish

Thanks Suz
I did have some census information... but everytime I found a John and Mary Stephenson.. there was another John and Mary. Not to mention the different spellings. John Jr, died around 1882; his wife Mary and Lillie ( young son George - although not John's son) came out to Aust. and settled/ landed in Rockhampton, then worked on properties out west Longreach way. Lillie married Eugene Forrest and had 9 children. Mary remarried and move back to Lincoln. If anyone is interested, I have a photo of Lillie of when she was 80-ish. Lillie lived till the early 1970's.
Thanks again for you help Suz.. and hello to any family.
Cheers for now... Trish

Sorry forgot to ask...
What is the nearest immigration point for Mary and Lillie to have left the UK... I'm having trouble find their entry to Australia. So, Was going to check exit points and try to find the ship. I think they got to Aust. 1886.

Thanks Trish

I'm guessing London, Plymouth or Portsmouth ...  :-\

Have you checking NSW in case they arrived there? If they paid their own fare there may not be any record of their arrival.

John Jr, died around 1882;

Perhaps he was the John STEPHENSON of 28 Gibbeson St, Lincoln, buried 4 March 1882 (32)
His father? ...
John STEPHENSON of St Swithins Parish, buried 11 Jan 1894 (73)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
