William John Howarth - Death mystrey

Hello,

Can anyone help me out please.

My grandfather said the only thing he knows about his uncle William John Howarth is that when he was young his father came home from work and was very upset. His wife asked him what had happened and he said 'Our Billy, died'.
When he had gone back to work, my grandfather asked his mother who Billy was and she said that he his dad's brother and that he was the black sheep of the family, and that they didn't talk about him.

My grandfather said he was about 14 at the time, and he would like to know what happened to Billy.

William John was born Mar Quarter 1901 - Rochdale - 8e 39 - to John Howarth and Eliza (formally Bridgens)

The last record I have him is aged 10 in 1911 living with parents and siblings at 66 Littledale Street, Rochdale.
My grandfather was 14 in 1942.

I've checked death records from Mar 1939 to Dec 1945 and can't come up with anything. I've also checked HOWORTH, HAWARTH AND HAWORTH spellings from Mar 1941 to Dec 1943.

I've looked at CWGC records and still nothing.

Celia, I think that is the wrong Howarth.  If William John was born 1901, was aged 10 on 1911 Census, he can hardly be age 46 by 1915!! Or have I misunderstood the question?

I found in 1941 mar qtr the death of William Heyworth aged 39 in Rochdale it could be him.

Sammy no it might have been me,i read it as your grandfather was 14 at the time,so if William was his uncle the age i thought fitted.Sorry if I read that wrong

If your granddad was about 14 when his uncle died, and he was 14 in 1942, then William's death must have been around that time.  So my guess is that the death Sammy An has found in 1941 in Rochdale is the correct one, even if the spelling of the name is wrong.

Thanks everyone,

Nothing suprises me anymore in this game, so why should I be, when I search every possible variation on the name I can think and he's under something so out.

Shame, what with the increase in the price for certifcates, I can't go get William Heyworth.
I'll keep looking though and at least I have something now.
