Good Morning all!
  Yesterday, I received a long awaited parcel from the rellies containing copies of Nanas details,I was wondering ,could anybody shed further light on these families.
 William Douglas BIRD-Marine Engineer,married Carlotta Mary CHEW-Home Duties,No info on marriage.
 Nana- Phyllis Mary Bird-B 26th October 1905,Stroud(Mildon House),she had 3 sisters-Mollie,Iona,Guida,all possibly born in Stroud? Such unusual names!The family immigrated to australia in the early 1900s ? Any details on the Bird family would be great. Cheers.......chrissy.

Their marriage cert would give you fathers' names, which would be a start.

Do you have Carlotta on censuses?  Or William?

 The only info we have is what you see above, we have not been able to find Carlotta Mary or William Douglas on any Census in the stroud area,Bird is a REALLY common Name in Stroud,Also we dont have the Marriage cert yet.   cheers....chrissy

Topic back in 2005. Re WILLIAM DOUGLAS BIRD & CARLOTTA MARY CHEW.  involying chrissy /Arranroots. WD BIRD was my great uncle. Did they know  they had  a nephew  who won Wimbledon Tennis Championship back in 1930s. Birdbrand

  Well,Thats a bit of a surprise!!! The bird/Chew connection is my hubbys..Nice to meet you.
    Can you tell us a bit more about the family,Ive not done too much with this lot,but will share what I have

Dont know how much you know already.william Douglas Bird was the elder brother of my grandad Robert Howard Bird(b1882). His son Terence(my dad) talked about uncle Will who went to Australia.Dont think he ever met him,. dad during the war  came to Australia and told he met his cousins (4 girls).he thought one of them had married a policeman Hands?///. This info is a long way back and dad died in2000.wiiliam also had a cousin Charles Hayward Bird who became Sir, and a Lord Mayor of Cardiff in 1911.The nephew of William by his sister Agnes Bird was Pat Hughes ,who won in the doubles Wimbledon tenniss Championship circa 1938.by Coincidence I also came to australia with family and live in WA.Family gossip was that uncle Will went gold prospecting and disappeared,?.Have got  a lot of information so keepin touch.
   The family business of tar distillery origins 1863 is still in my side of the family using the Bird name.
