Are you still looking for info on George Scarff? I live in Hunston and am regularly at the small church there. Can take a look at the gravestones if that would help?

That is very kind of you and much appreciated - the George Scarff that was the focus of my enquiry moved away from the area however his parents or grandparents could well be buried there:-

Wilson/Thornton -Ireland early 1800s

Sorry -  I drew a complete blank. There are very few gravestones left in the graveyard and those that are there are illegible. I am planning on doing a history of the village with a friend over the coming months- only 150 inhabitants in the village - so if i come across any more info in the records office etc I will get back to you.

I have noticed your interest in your village.  There is a vacancy for a Local History Recorder in Hunston.  Would you be interested in taking it on?

You can email directly via the Suffolk Local History Council website, or send me a PM.  Our Annual Conference day is held quite near to you at Elmswell and we shall be there in March for Societies Day, when Local History Groups from all over the county will be there with their publications and to give advice and help.

Well that was a bit of a shock! I have no idea what a local history recorder is. I am happy to consider doing it, but I'd like to know exactly what it is and what it involves. I'll have a look at your website.

Hunston is a charming village. My Great Grandparents were married in the church in 1895.

Thank you for your note. Do you have any info on the Buckles in Hunston? I am part of a group in the village who are researching the history of the village, the houses and the people who lived in the old houses. There were quite alot of Buckles - ag labourers and shoemakers I believe, but I guess you prob know more than me. We have just started going to the local records office collating info so if there is anything there you would like me to find out then I'm happy to do that. Have you been to Hunston - at one point the Buckles lived in Trotmans yard and then I believe it was called Buckles yard. There is a row of 3 cottages now called 'the yard' and we think that is prob Buckles/Trotmans yard. The village is so small there are not many old dwellings. If you have any pictures of your family here that would be very interesting. Thanks for getting in touch.
