My original post was 29 September enquiring about birth details of Sarah Ann BATE.  I was successful in finding her birth.  She was born 18 Mar 1853 at The Bratch, Staffordshire.  Her father was Thomas BATE, a boatman, her mother Elizabeth WRIGHT.  I have since purchased their Marriage Certificate which shows they were both of full age when married.  Thomas' father was James BATE, a boatman, and Elizabeth's father, Thomas WRIGHT, also a boatman.  They were married on 21 Apr 1852 at the Parish Church in the Parish of Dudley in the County of Worcester. 

Are there any connections to these families please?

Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum having read the original 20 page one and have now found this one.

My gg grandfather was George Edwards, born in Banbury in 1925 and working on the Oxford Canal in 1871 - census has him as captain of a boat named "Susan".  He had 5 children, William George (known as George), Job, Thomas, Mary Anne (my ggrandmother) and Susannah.  In 1861 he was living in Factory Street, Neithrop and is described as Boatman.  His wife, Susannah Franklin, died in 1865 when their last child was born. 

The two girls were sent, one each, to two of Susannah's sisters and the two older boys seemed to have joined their father on the boat.  Certainly Job is with him in 1871 and son George was working as "helper" on the boat "Wild Wave" with the owner Samuel Roadright and his wife Mary and their son William, lying at his wharf in Fenny Compton.

In 1881 Job is a Lighterman on "Moscow" at Chester Castle,  Cheshire.

George (father) seems to have died in 1877.

In 1891 Job is one of three crew on an unnamed boat captained by William Johnson at Church Lock,  Church Lawton Cheshire.

I would be grateful for any information anyone might have linked to any of the above.

I have also be trying to access Kerry's "wonderful"website but I seem unable to get in.  All I can see is a funny Wix handle on the right which doesn't seem to do anything other than bring up a bar at the bottom which says Miners, with boatmen underneath, neither of which can  be accessed.  What am I doing wrong?

Hello everyone....can anyone help me please 

I am trying to trace a Horace Nixon.  He was born in 1905 in Paddington, but his family originate from Wolverhampton area.  He is part of the Nixons from Stourport, who the majority were boatmen.  I've found him with his family on the 1911 census, but have lost track him after that.  I did find a death for a Horace in 1916, but have been subsequently told that he is remembered in the 30's, so I know that one isn't him.

Can anyone help me, I've tried everything to find him, but can't find any obvious marriage or death.

Also, I have another branch of the family who were Dulson's, and were also boat people.  In particular, Jane Dulson.  I have her marriage and death, which puts her birth about 1901, and she is on the 1911 census as being born in West Bromwich, but again I can't find anything.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a couple of parish records (Christnings)from the church used by the boatmen in Brentford.
for a William & lucy Edwards children baptised on the cut on the canal boat Prosperity around late 1920 early 1930 time could they be part of your Edwards Family

I don't think those Edwards are mine unless they are descended from Job.  I was hoping to find earlier people such as George's parents and siblings.  Also whether George owned his own boat or worked for someone else.
