Hi All:

Have just been reading through this thread (#2) and the previous one (#1).

The boatmen in my family have the surname NIXON. I've seen a few Nixon's through this topic, but none that I recognize. I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about these Staffordshire Nixons found on the 1861 census in Wolverhampton:

Thomas Nixon 55 (b 1806 - Shenstone, Staffs) - Boatman
Maria Nixon 43 (b 1818 - Stretton, Staffs)
Mary A Nixon 14 (b 1847 - Brewood, Staffs)
Anna M Nixon 13 (b 1848 - Brewood, Staffs)
Thomas Nixon 10 (b 1851 - Wolverhampton, Staffs)
William Nixon 3 (b 1859 - Wolverhampton, Staffs)

I think Thomas (b 1806) is the son of Benjamin Nixon (b ca. 1781 - Shenstone) and his wife Ann.

Hi Jane:

None of the Nixon's have the middle name Slater and I don't know of any ties to the Harrison, Holt or Monk names.

I have started searching Thomas Nixon because he is the oldest brother of my 3x gt grandmother Ann Nixon. I've hit a brick wall with Ann and I wondered if I could get somewhere through Thomas. I was hoping to connect with someone who had him in their family.

I'll have to follow Thomas and his children and see where that leads.

....1861 census in Wolverhampton:
Thomas Nixon 55 (b 1806 - Shenstone, Staffs) - Boatman
Maria Nixon 43 (b 1818 - Stretton, Staffs)
Mary A Nixon 14 (b 1847 - Brewood, Staffs)
Anna M Nixon 13 (b 1848 - Brewood, Staffs)
Thomas Nixon 10 (b 1851 - Wolverhampton, Staffs)
William Nixon 3 (b 1859 - Wolverhampton, Staffs)

I've found Thomas and sons Thomas and William on the 1871 census. He (along with Thomas junior) are listed as 'Master Boat Man of the Edward Neale'

Are there any resources to search in order to get more information on the 'Edward Neale'?
