BANCROFT family of Caistor & photos
« on: Thursday 13 May 10 22:30 BST (UK) »
I have a photograph of an old man sitting outside a backdoor whom I suspect may have been David BANCROFT of Caistor, my great great grandmother's brother.

I wonder if anyone has any information on the BANCROFTs in Caistor and in particular David and his brother Nicholson who were there in the latter part of the nineteenth century until their deaths between the two world wars. I have a definite photo of Nicholson. I am also lucky enough to possess a photograph album which supposedly belonged to the BANCROFTS with pictures from the 1870s-90s although very few of the subjects can be identified. I would love to be able to do so.

Best wishes,
Mark

Nicholson died in Caistor in March qtr 1920 aged 72.  He was b Osgodby in 1848 and was married to Mary Ann Parker in 1873

A Kellyfidoe has notified a 1901 transcription error on 30.4.2010 - is she related?

David was b 1843 Osgodby and was married to Ann.  David also died in March qtr 1920 aged 76

Hello Carole,

Thanks for replying and the information regarding David and Nicholson. I do not know Kellyfidoe.

Some years ago I went to Caistor and was sent to the house of a descendant. She told me her mother had had lots of photos but hey had all been burnt after her death! The only one which survived was of Nicholson Bancroft and it was one of the family photos I also had!

Thanks once again,

Mark
