1851 census lookup Shoreditch - JENKINS/RINGER
« on: Saturday 26 March 05 19:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am new to this list so I hope I am not asking too much.
I have my Great Great Grandparents marrying Sept 12 1852 in the district of Shoreditch in the district parish of St. Mary Haggerston. John Jenkins age 21 married Ann Ringer age 20. Grooms father was Joseph Jenkins occ Lawyer and the Brides father was John George Ringer occ Greengrocer. Residence at time of marriage listed as Kingsland Rd. for both. I have the 1871 census showing Ann and her children in Hoxton but John had died by this time. I can not find them on the 1861 census because that area was lost. I don't have any information on the fathers. Ann lists her birthplace as Hoxton or shoreditch on the census. If anyone could have a look on the 1851 census it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Roger

The 1851 index for Shoreditch is surname only and there are too many Jenkins to list.  It is possible the person with the index and the census will look them up for you when they have time.  They were not in Bethnal Green or Whitechapel.

The only Ringer in Shoreditch, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel and St George in the East is Ringer? Ref. HO 107/1537 folio 318.

Hopefully someone will look this up for you in the actual census.  If they don't after a week then ask again on the London Lookup requests board quoting the name and reference

Dear Sylviaann
Thank you for taking the time to check the 1851 index out for me. I am going to be away for the rest of the week. I will check when I return and hopefully someone has the images and can do a look up for me.
Thank you
Roger

Hello Bryant
Thanks for your help. It will be of great help to me. Through GenesReunited I have found a 3rd cousin who has much of the information on the family and she confirmed that he was a sawyer and not a lawyer. With her help I should get to the bottom of it all.
Thanks again
Roger

Hi Roger,

I happened to stumbled upon your post as I googled the names.

John Jenkins and Ann Ringer are my great great great grandparents. Their Daughter Mary Ann Jenkins born in 1856 married James Heartley Powell my Great Great Grandfather. I haven't found any of Mary's siblings as yet. The Powell family moved to Western Australia just before WW1 resettling in a country town called Williams.

I would love to know how are you connected to the Jenkins family?

Claire

Hello Claire
My great grandmother is Eliza Jenkins who is Mary Ann Jenkin sister. Eliza was born May 22 1864 and married William Miller April 10 1881. That would make us cousins. Welcome to the family. Are you using ancestry? I still have much work to do on that side of the family. I do have birth certificates for all the children for John and Ann. I also have a cousin in Australia. He lives in Geelong just south of Melbourne.

Hi Roger,

It's great to find a living connection! They really did spread across the globe.

I have just really starting to look at ancestry more, I have mostly been using Find My Past and free resources. I have seen that you have a tree on ancestry? but I can't access it without paying.

I have only just really started to investigate this line in depth, I only have Mary Ann's Birth and Marriage certificate so far.

Is the cousin in Geelong also connected to the Jenkins?
