Hi helen thanks for info. Now i understand where John got the middle name Airdrie-I thought it was from the town of Airdrie-But that made no sense as none lived there.

Yes, I now live in Texas-between Houston and San Antonio.-since 1989.Parents died a few years ago, only sister and her kids still in Scotland/England.

Thank you for the links, I had found Ayrshire roots before but not the other.

Strange middle names are often maiden names of parents or grandparents so can give a bit of a clue what you're looking for some time. My Grandfather was called Samuel Dunn Nutt, the Dunn of course being his mothers maiden name. What I am really curious about is Margaret McCreadie's middle name of Johnston, it sounds like it would have come down the generations from someone elses last name but I have yet to find out where from.

I was born in England but now live up in Seattle. If you're ever up this way or I'm down that way I'd love to meet for a coffee or something, meet a random distant relative :)
Gilbert ~ London, Essex.
Nutt ~ Sussex England, Ayrshire Scotland, Ireland.
Scully, Richards, Stepney, Goble ~ Sussex.
James ~ London, Essex, Sussex, Pembrokeshire.
Lochhead ~ Ayrshire/ Nielston Renfrewshire Scotland.
Dunn, Airdry/Airdrie ~ Ayrshire Scotland, Donaghadee Ireland.
McCreadie, McQuaters/McWaters ~ Ireland

I did :) To Elizabeth Boyd if memory serves correct. They had 3 children Joseph, Hugh and... I think the other was a girl maybe an Elizabeth? (going by pure memory here lol) Joseph died young, in his 20's and before his father. He was found down the mine with electrical burns to his neck. How very sad to die so alone and underground.

Morning!
You're right about Elizabeth Boyd. Joseph and she married 28 ap 1899 Auchinleck.she was born abt 1876 Kilmarnock ayrshire.F-hugh boyd.m- Elizabeth Reid. 3 children, [according to 1901 census] Hugh-1901 auchinleck,Joseph 1900 New Cumnock, other child born later I guess.
Susan was married to Thomas Anderson b- 1882 ? Greenock, married 10 sept 1915 Ayr was a Pvt 3rd Bat. Royal Scots Fusiliers[widower]-KIA France 28 Mar 1918.could not find any children to them.
Tried to look up info in the 'Sarah McCreadie' from your 1861 census f-James NcCreadie .No luck sorry !Complete blank on BDM-I could not even find the census relating to her -tried 2 different sources. If you still have that info it should give an aprox age and where born.Parents Mc Creadie MAY have originated from Ireland?
Well I think I am as far as I need get on Dunns-otherwise you never stop.

If I can be of any other help let me know.
Good hunting Sheena

Hi All,

i haven't read this entire thread properly, and it's been ages since I have done any genealogy, but Dougal Burnside, and Mary are part of my family. Mary McMillan Murdoch, was married to THomas Burnside, and Dougal is their daughter Janets (my gggrandmother, who died in 1881) son. I'm not sure how they are connected to this family, I will look into it better, and see if I can dig my notes out.

Lanarkshire- Lochiel, McGibbon/McCubbin, Burnside, McDougal

Hi Karen, Thanks for posting. It made me revisit the thread :)

I've got a Tombstone in Ireland with a little more info on the Dunn's above and around Michael Dunn.

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else came along that was connected.
