Thomas Pyne Bethnal Green 1901
« on: Monday 10 May 10 20:14 BST (UK) »
Would be grateful for a family entry for Thomas Pyne. From the 1901 index he is given as age 34, born Hoxton, living in Bethnal Green.

Believe this may be the son of a John Pyne and Ann Page. (John b Shoreditch in 1830). Also possible that This Thomas married a Mary Quaintrell, but cannot find a matching entry in the BMD index. If this is the same Thomas then I have an on line reference to three children , namely Thomas, Beatrice and Alfred.

Thanks

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
my husband's gg-aunt Mary Ann Quaintrell had several children by Thomas Pyne. They were unlikely to have married because I have found a marriage for Mary Ann to a Henry Lumley on 25 Apr 1886.
Henry seems to be living with an Emma/Emily in Plaistow in 1901 and 1911 with their own children.

Mary Ann was "widowed" by the aged of 42 which would fit with the Thomas Pyne who died in 1908.

Here are Mary Ann & the children in 1911
4 Ion Square Bethnal Green, London
PYNE, Mary Ann Head Widow  F 41 1870 Fancy Box Maker London Bethnal Green
PYNE, Thomas Son Single  M 15 1896 Chemist Ts Boy London ClaptonTEXT PYNE, Beatrice Daughter   F 14 1897 School London Clapton
PYNE, Alfred Son   M 11 1900 School London Bethnal Green
PYNE, Albert Son   M 8 1903  London Bethnal Green

Mary Ann's cousin Rebecca Levoir had married John Pyne (Thomas' brother?) on 15 May 1876 and they too are living in Ion Square in 1911.

Thanks for the latest post on this Sue. And yes I think you are right about the John married to Rebecca Levoir, they married in 1876 and had a few other children as well from 1879 onwards.

John and Thomas also had 7 other siblings as far as I can make out, the children of John P b 1830 in Shoreditch and wife Ann. He in turn the son of another John P b1799 in Exeter and wife Jane Britton  (Pyne is a westcountry name and most families trace back to Devon and Somerset). Think I can push back this Pyne line further through a number of generations in Exeter as well.

Regards

Jeremy

Hi, Jeremy
Just returned to Rootschat after time away, and this thread holds great personal interest, as my grandma (Rebecca Sarah Ann) was the eldest daughter of John Pyne and Rebecca (nee Levoir). I'll have to set to work again; looks as though I need to check out some of my earlier work!

  John

Hi Jeremy,

I just googled my grandmother's name - Beatrice Mary Pyne - and your post came up so I've joined Rootschat to reply.
Beatrice moved to Australia in the 1920s. Her marriage certificate stated that her mother was Mary Ann Quaintrell.
I was in London in 2015 and found the dwelling where the family lived at 4 Ion Square Bethnal Green.
Fascinating.
I hope we can share some more information.

Regards, Jodie
