Public house 37 Richard Lane/33 Holly Street
Sarah Ann Marshall 47 single publicaness bn Lincolnshire
Frederick Richard Carmont 9 son bn Sheffield
HArriet Jackson 18 servant
The first part of the address is 37
Orchard Lane.
The Sheffield pub sources are confused about which pub this is. Some suggest that it is the Old Red Lion, which still exists, but that is now 18-20 Holly Street, so the wrong side of the street.
In 1891 Sarah Ann MARSHALL is landlady of the 'Yorkshire Stingo' Division St, also in Sheffield. (piece 3815 folio 125 page 19) . She has a barmaid called Florence J CARMOCK, Married, 29 born Putney (London). I wonder if this is the actual mother of Frederick?
There is this marriage group at FreeBMD:
GRO Marriages SEP Qtr 1884
Barclay Florence Janet Sheffield 9c 660
Booker Mary Sheffield 9c 660
CARMONT William Henry Sheffield 9c 660
GREENHEDGE Albert Sheffield 9c 660
Florence Janet BARCLAY's birth was registered in Bermondsey in London - not sure if that is right for Putney.
I think William Henry died in 1897 and it looks as though Florence remarried in 1901, before the census.
GRO Marriages MAR Qtr 1901
Carmont Florence Janet Sheffield 9c 605
North Joseph Sheffield 9c 605
In the census they are at piece 4368 folio 26 page 6 - yet another pub. Joseph North was 52 - maybe he wasn't willing to be a step-father?
