James Reney

Hi,
I am looking for the baptism of James Reney born about 1790. His marriage certificate records him as being from Harrington, Cumberland and a census has him being born in Harrington Cumberland.

Could anyone help me find out anymore about him please?

Hi,
I guess that shouldn't really be a problem. James Reney married in Flintshire North Wales in 1815 so I suppose the person who wrote the record could have written the surname the way it sounded to him/her.

The only clue I have with regards to his family is that a Charles Reney was present at his marriage. Record doesn't state if Charles was his father or brother though.

James was a Mariner if that is of any use.

According to cumberlandroots, Harrington records should be on IGI but there is no record of him there, only Workington and Whitehaven at about the right time. Harrington is equidistant between the 2.

Thank you both so much for taking the time to help - it is really appreciated.
Since my last post I have discovered that I made a mistake in saying that a Charles Reney/Rainey attended the marriage of James. It was in fact an Andrew who was at the wedding.
I looked at the website you very kindly gave me and found that an Andrew Rainey was the father of James. I am now very intrigued and am wondering if this could be the breakthrough I have spent years looking for.

Excellent News.  Wondered if that was one of those surnames that varied slightly over the years.  The occupation of Mariner in that time frame also fits very well for the area. I started looking for a marriage of an Andrew but could'nt find anything.  :(  However, you have got some brothers and a sister for James   ;D

Brothers and a sister? Would you have their names please? Only James was listed an the website you gave me.
If any of the Reney/Rainey family are still about I want you to know that James did very well for himself and was greatly respected here.
