Holmes Family, Spalding
« on: Sunday 09 May 10 19:21 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find any information at all or even trace people from the Holmes family, originally from Spalding, Lincolnshire:

Arthur Holmes (Arthur George Holmes) b. around 1871 - railway goods guard
Sarah Holmes b. around 1870

their children were:

Daisy Holmes (Daisy Maud Holmes) b. about 1897
Cyril Holmes (Cyril Arthur Holmes) b. c. 1901 - railway clerk
married Emma Garwell in 1931 (at least one son, Michael Holmes)
Olive Holmes (Olive Mabel Holmes) b. c. 1907
Marjorie Holmes (Marjorie Florence Holmes) b. c. 1908
Stanley Holmes (Stanley William Holmes) b. c. 1910

thanks a lot!

Thanks Dee - that's fascinating. And very nice of you to check it out. I am trying to find living descendants of the family and hopefully this will help.

I'm a HOLMES - born in Gosberton Clough but many of Dad'd parents and uncles were farmers in the Spalding area.

I'm trying to add to the tree & historical aspects & would appreciate as much help as I can get.

After moving from the western side of the county Witham on the Hill (nr Bourne) several branches moved to farm near Spalding in the mid 1800's setting mainly in the Pinchbeck area.

I believe that Cyril Holmes retired as a travelling auditor in the Lincoln district  of British railways in the early 1960s. This entailed visiting stations, and auditing their accounts.
