Carlisle Help Please!
« on: Friday 07 May 10 20:36 BST (UK) »
I have found on the  online IGI a birth I have been looking for viz:
Carlisle, St Mary. Chr. 5th April 1720 William HARLING
Unfortunately the entry gives no clue to parents. I would be grateful if anyone has the availability of a register/transcript copy of this entry which names the parents.
Many thanks. Regards  ...............  Peter

Peter, this is an extracted record and does actually give fathers name as Wm.  :)
Someone may be able to help with a transcript but its possible mothers name was illegible or not given :(

Hello Suey
Thanks for that information. Really, I think something is wrong here! The date matches, but not the father (William), which should be Christopher and his wife Mary. I can only confirm if someone has a source record available. Many thanks again Suey for reply.

Hi Peter

If you can wait until next week I'm hoping to go to the library.  I would be able to check the microfilm copy then.

Hi Peter

been into the library today.  The record is very difficult to read but it definately says William son of William Harling.  There wasn't a mother named.  Suppose that doesn't help you!!

Hello Julie
Gosh! That was quick. I really do appreciate your efforts on my behalf Julie, many thanks. I presume the record you looked at was a copy of the Bishops Transcript?

Hi Peter

It was a microfilm of the the parish record of St Mary, not a transcript.  I could get a photocopy of the record, if you would like me to?

I see Julie; no, a photocopy isn't necessary, I was just checking which original source was searched. So, it's back to the drawing board again!
My best wishes for your research Julie and kind regards with my thanks.  .............. Peter
